Privacy in This Ledger
What happens when you read, prepare a message or write to us.
Who is responsible
Polarbrowsecomet Coastal Heritage Ltd, 42 King Street, Bristol BS1 4DZ, United Kingdom, company no. 15468329, is responsible for personal information it processes in connection with this website and editorial correspondence. Contact [email protected] with privacy questions or requests.
Reading the website
The site’s own code includes no analytics, advertising trackers, user accounts or profiling tools. Pages, styles, scripts and photographs are served as site files. Ordinary web delivery exposes technical information such as an IP address, requested URL, browser information and access time to the hosting infrastructure. Hosting and security logs may be processed to deliver the service, investigate faults and protect against misuse.
Where we process technical records for operation and security, our basis is our legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable, secure website. We do not use these records to build advertising profiles.
The local correspondence tool
Text entered in the Contact tool is handled in the current page’s memory. The tool does not submit it to us, use browser storage for drafts or run a background transmission. Copying uses your browser’s Clipboard API when available and permitted. Downloading creates a plain-text file on your device through a temporary object URL.
Copied text and downloaded files are under your control. They can remain on your device or clipboard after the page closes. Your browser may also restore form content independently of the website’s code. Use appropriate care on shared devices.
If you send an email
When you email us, we receive the information you choose to send, which may include your email address, name, message and attachments. We use it to respond, investigate corrections and maintain necessary editorial correspondence. Our usual legal basis is legitimate interests in answering enquiries and maintaining an accurate publication; a legal obligation may apply to some records.
Do not send confidential medical information or unnecessary identity documents. We do not sell correspondence or add writers to a marketing list. We would seek permission before publishing a correspondent’s identifying details or private message as an attributed contribution.
Service providers, retention and disclosure
Hosting and email providers may process information on our behalf to operate these services. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish or defend legal rights. If processing involves a restricted international transfer, applicable safeguards must be used.
We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for its purpose, including follow-up, an editorial record or legal obligations. Technical records should be retained no longer than needed for operational and security purposes. Relevant records may be kept longer for an active dispute or legal requirement. We review deletion requests in that context rather than promising immediate erasure in every case.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of personal information, and may object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights have conditions and exceptions. Contact us using the address above; we may need proportionate information to confirm your identity.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or another competent supervisory authority. You do not have to contact us first to exercise that right.
